Photo: NRK \nPlease join us on November 21 at 2 PM to celebrate and commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Norwegian Liberation! \nMay 8\, 1945 saw the end of Nazi occupation and the beginning of a new era in Norway. Norwegian Society and Church Service Washington DC\, Norwegian American Chamber of Commerce Mid-Atlantic\, and Sons of Norway Washington Lodge will be hosting a special Zoom remembrance on Saturday\, November 21\, 2020\, at 2 PM (EST). We will celebrate this important event and acknowledge the courage and sacrifices of Norwegians – especially our local members and their relatives – who were in Norway during this difficult time. \n  \nDave Brown\, President of Sons of Norway Washington Lodge\, will give the opening remarks.  Wally Jensen\, Pastor of the Norwegian Church Service\, will give the invocation. Chloe Friberg\, General Manager of NACC MA\, will introduce our main speaker Colonel Håvard Klevberg\, Air Attaché and Assistant Defense Attaché at the Royal Norwegian Embassy.  Award-winning Author Janet Oakley will give a short presentation on Norway during the war.  Members will present their stories of the occupation and remember their relatives who lived during the period. Lasse Syversen\, President of the Norwegian Society and Church Service\, will give the concluding remarks. The formal program will be followed by small group chat sessions. \nZoom details have been sent to our members by e-mail. Guests are welcome\, but will need to contact us to receive the details. \n

DESCRIPTION:VIRTUAL ANDAKT/DEVOTION AND KIRKEKAFFE on October 11 at 3 PM. Please register in advance below. \nWe ask that you register on our website prior to the service so we can send you the agenda and the zoom link for access to the service. \nThe upcoming service on October 11 at 3 pm will be celebrated with HØSTTAKKEFEST (Thanksgiving). If we had held the service in person\, we would have the children carry vegetables to the altar during the procession. In the spirit of that we would ask you to bring a vegetable to the zoom meeting to set the tone. Another thing we can share with each other after the service during our social hour is LAPPER (pancakes). Vigdis Syversen\, our Social Chair\, has shared a recipe you can use to make these. \nLAPPER (makes around 30) \n4 dl white flour (just short of 1 and 3/4 cups) \n3 dl milk (about 1 and 1/4 cups) \n5 eggs \n2.5 tablespoons granulated sugar \n3 tablespoons butter \n0.5 teaspoon salt \n1 teaspoon baking soda \n\nHow to make them: \nMelt the butter and mix all the ingredients into an even batter. Let it swell for 15 min. \nFry the “lapp” in a heated frying pan with butter or oil\, one minute on each side. \nUse a ladle and make them around 10 cm in diameter. \nServe cooled with some jam or fresh berries. Freshly made “lapper” is always popular\, for breakfast\, lunch or supper\, with guests – or even without.  ENJOY!

DESCRIPTION:Join us for our Virtual Annual Meeting on October 10\, 2020 at 4 PM! \nWe will start off with a Cocktail hour and then we will conduct our yearly business. Our president will give his annual report\, and we will approve the financial reports and budget for next year\, as well as the new board members for 2021. \nPlease register below for the Zoom meeting and the meeting details will be sent to you by email a day or two in advance. \n  \n \nHere is a little bit of information about the Virtual Cocktail Hour: \nBecause 2020 is so unique\, we wanted to do things a little differently this year. We will start off Cocktail Hour where we will be joined by mixologist and previous restaurant owner\, Mathew Gries. He has created a special cocktail just for us and will also be teaching us how to make it! The cocktail he has created is called the Lingonberry Sour and uses a wonderful mix of Aquavit\, Elderflower\, and (of course) Lingonberry. If you would like to participate in making the cocktail with us\, below are the ingredients and the measurements needed: \nLingonberry Sour \n\n2oz Aquavit (this can now easily be found here in the states at your local liquor store…but you can also substitute this with Vodka)\n1oz Fresh Lemon Juice\n1/2 oz Simple Syrup\n1/2oz St Germain Elderflower Liqueur\n2tsp Lingonberry Jam\nGarnish with a Lemon Peel or 3 Lingonberries\n\nWe look forward to seeing you all at the Annual Meeting and having a little fun with Mat!

The intersection of Seven Locks Road and Bradley Blvd. \nPlease RSVP below with the number of guests in your party!\nThis event is free\, but please bring a generous contribution to our julebord/Christmas buffet. Bring either a main dish or dessert. Norwegian homemade food is of course most welcome\, but other Christmas fare or one of your favorite dishes will of course be welcome as well. \nEvery year we get a visitor from the far North who brings treats for the children. This year is no exception. In addition to the visit from the far North and our shared sumptuous buffet\, NOSOKIRKEN will serve gløgg\, soda\, water\, and coffee free of charge. \nThere will also be a nicely decorated tree\, and we will all gather around it (this year we should actually be able to walk around it!) to sing traditional carols in Norwegian and English. There will be Norwegian music to accompany our caroling by Jo Storaker\, and you will be able to visit with friends\, old and new.
