Lunch will be served shortly after our arrival followed by a short introduction and welcoming remarks and Ms. Steenberg’s talk. If you come by metro\, take the Silver Line towards Wiehle/Reston to the Tysons Corner station. \nMighty Trains\, Discovery Canada: “When it comes to delivering freshly caught cod\, mackerel\, herring\, and salmon from the Arctic Coast to the rest of the world\, there is only one train for the job: the North Rail Express. Time and temperature control are of the essence\, and there is no train better equipped to handle a speedier and more efficient fish transport than this highly specialized container train. It travels a 1\,200-mile route through the steep\, icy mountains of Norway and Sweden\, with high-tech refrigeration trailers to keep the cargo in peak condition”. Norwegian fish export is considered as the “new oil” in Norway with an expected yearly growth rate of 4\,9% until 2050. A lot of logistic operations are necessary to perform before the salmon ends up on your plate. \nKirsten Steenberg\, recently in position as Head of Direct Freight in DB Schenker Norway\, has many years of management experience from the Norwegian and international logistics industry as well as the oil industry. Through DB Schenker and board work in the Norwegian Logistics and Freight Association (NHO Logistikk og Transport)\, she has worked for safe and legal freight transport on the road. One of the most time-critical products in her work has been transport of Norwegian seafood from Norway to international markets\, including the North American market. Kirsten Steenberg holds a Bachelor of International Marketing from the NMH Deutschen Außenhandels- und Verkehrs- Akademie\, Germany and a Master of Strategic Management from BI Norwegian Business School\, Norway. She is from Oslo and moved to McLean\, VA in August 2017 due to her husband’s work for the Armed Forces and the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program. \n\n\n

DESCRIPTION:Please join us for our NOSOKIRKEN JULETREFEST on Sunday\, December 8 at 5 PM\nAll ages are welcome – feel free to bring guests!\nLocation: Emmanuel Lutheran Church – Social Hall\, basement\nAddress: 7730 Bradley Blvd\, Bethesda\, MD. The intersection of Seven Locks Road and Bradley Blvd. \nPlease RSVP below with the number of guests in your party!\nThis event is free\, but please bring a generous contribution to our julebord/Christmas buffet. Bring either a main dish or dessert. Norwegian homemade food is of course most welcome\, but other Christmas fare or one of your favorite dishes will of course be welcome as well. \nEvery year we get a visitor from the far North who brings treats for the children. This year is no exception. In addition to the visit from the far North and our shared sumptuous buffet\, NOSOKIRKEN will serve gløgg\, soda\, water\, and coffee free of charge. \nThere will also be a nicely decorated tree\, and we will all gather around it (this year we should actually be able to walk around it!) to sing traditional carols in Norwegian and English. There will be Norwegian music to accompany our caroling by Jo Storaker\, and you will be able to visit with friends\, old and new.
