The event will be held at our Church\, Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Bethesda.\nSunday\, October 8th – we will have our “Fest Gudstjeneste” / Anniversary Worship at normal time\, 3 pm. \nHistorie: \nSjomannsprest Trygve Woxen fikk I oppdrag av Oslo biskop dr. theol. Eivind Bergrav aa begynne Gudstjeneste I Washington\, D.C. I 1947. Forste Gudstjeneste ble holdt 30. Mars I Lutheran Service Center\, Jackson Place N.W. Woxen var sjomannsprest for baade Philadelphia og Baltimore paa det tidspunkt. Med videre oppmuntring fra biskop Berggrav fortsatte Woxen arbeidet med Gudstjeneste I Washington\, D.C. Ved hjelp av pastor Abraham Vereide\, Executive Director of The National Committee for Christan Leadership\, Inc. Og ved elskverdig imotekommenhet fra kirkens prest\, Reverend Harold E. Beatty\, fikk Sjomannskirken gratis bruk av Georgetown Lutheran Shurch for sin utvidete virksomhet. I 1948 fikk Madolf Rossebo\, som fast stasjonert sjomannsprest i Baltimore\, ansvaret for aa viderefoere arbeidet med de norske Gudstjenestene i DC.

Please join us for the memorial service in Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Bethesda\, MD on Saturday\, October 13 at 1 PM.\n \nArve Michelsen\, a kind\, loving gentleman\, 94\, died 9/10/18. Born in Hamar\, Norway\, he served as an officer in the Royal Norwegian Navy (WWII) and Air Force. A Sigma Chi\, he earned degrees from Arizona and Stanford U. with a Johns Hopkins U. Ph.D in Bio-Medical Engineering. He worked as a Principal Staff Engineer at JHU/APL for 36 years. He was active in the Norwegian Church in Wash D.C. and Norwegian associations. \n He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years\, Frances\, daughter Anne Marie\, granddaughters Sonja\, Anna\, daughters-in-law Miriam\, Sandy\, with family in Norway and the U.S.\n

Vi går inn i fastetiden som tar oss fram til påsken som kommer sent i år. Tekstene denne søndagen minner oss på at «hvetekornet» må ned i jorden for at nytt aks og nye korn skal vokse fram. For hvetekornet finnes ingen snarvei. Kanskje heller ikke for oss?» \n  \n \nThere will be Norwegian food items for sale at kirkekaffe. DESCRIPTION:Please join us for our NOSOKIRKEN JULETREFEST on Sunday\, December 8 at 5 PM\nAll ages are welcome – feel free to bring guests!\nLocation: Emmanuel Lutheran Church – Social Hall\, basement\nAddress: 7730 Bradley Blvd\, Bethesda\, MD. The intersection of Seven Locks Road and Bradley Blvd. \nPlease RSVP below with the number of guests in your party!\nThis event is free\, but please bring a generous contribution to our julebord/Christmas buffet. Bring either a main dish or dessert. Norwegian homemade food is of course most welcome\, but other Christmas fare or one of your favorite dishes will of course be welcome as well. \nEvery year we get a visitor from the far North who brings treats for the children. This year is no exception. In addition to the visit from the far North and our shared sumptuous buffet\, NOSOKIRKEN will serve gløgg\, soda\, water\, and coffee free of charge. \nThere will also be a nicely decorated tree\, and we will all gather around it (this year we should actually be able to walk around it!) to sing traditional carols in Norwegian and English. There will be Norwegian music to accompany our caroling by Jo Storaker\, and you will be able to visit with friends\, old and new. There will be a raffle\, and the winners will be announced right before you leave. \nWe look forward to seeing you on December 8 and wish you all GOD JUL!\n\n\n  \n
